Fatima Sana tried some spray earlier

The Pakistani captain, Fatima Sana, was among the first to notice the disturbance caused by the insects. In an effort to mitigate the problem, she attempted to clear the area by using a spray, but this measure proved insufficient to eliminate the insects entirely.

As the bugs continued to interfere, play was paused temporarily to address the situation effectively.

Fumigation used to get rid of the bug

To ensure the continuation of the game under better conditions, the match officials and ground staff decided to implement fumigation on the field. This method was chosen as a more thorough approach to drive away the insects quickly and safely, without posing any harm to the players or the natural environment of the stadium.

The fumigation process involved using safe insecticide treatments to clear the pitch and surrounding areas, enabling a pest-free zone for the players.

The fumigation took only a short time but was crucial in restoring focus and comfort to the players from both teams. Once the insects were cleared, the game resumed smoothly without any further disruption, allowing both India Women and Pakistan Women to continue their competitive and spirited game.

Earlier in the match, India were asked to bat first and lost early wickets as Smriti Mandhana (23) and Pratika Rawal (31) were out after a good start. Things worsened for India as captain Harmanpreet Kaur nicked one down the leg side and was out on 19.

Harleen Deol and Jemimah Rodrigues tried to steady the ship for India. Jemimah was also lucky enough to survive a dismissal, thanks to a no-ball from Diana Bag. Before the break, India lost the wicket of a well-set Harleen Deol, who tried to loft the ball over long on and was caught on 46 off 65 balls.

At the break, India are 154/4 with Jemimah Rodrigues and Deepti Sharma at the crease.
