Wirtz, the German attacking midfielder, was brought to Anfield with a record-breaking fee of €125.00m from Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen in the 2025 Summer transfer window. Although the pundits suggested he was overpriced, the current Premier League champions wanted to strengthen their attacking squad as they knew Luiz Diaz was all set to make a move.
The 22-year-old had 31 goal contributions (16 goals and 15 assists) in 45 games for Leverkusen in the 2024/25 season under Xabi Alonso.

The second most expensive transfer in Liverpool FC's history also came in the 2025/26 season summer transfer window. Hugo Ekitike, the highly rated 23-year-old striker, scored 22 goals in 48 games in the 2024/25 season for Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt.
He also had 12 assists across all competitions and was on Arne Slot's shopping list ahead of the season. Ekitike's €95.00 million transfer fee is the second most expensive transfer in Liverpool FC's history.

Darwin Nunez, the Uruguayan striker, was once the highest-paid footballer in Liverpool FC's history with a record €85.00m transfer fee in the 2022/23 season from Portuguese club Benfica.
The big athletic striker was known for his presence inside the box, and his physicality was one of the reasons Jurgen Klopp was ready to pay that much for him. Nunez had scored 34 goals in 41 games in the 2021-22 season for Benfica to attract that big bid from the Premier League club.
However, since joining Liverpool, Nunez has been one of the biggest flops, with only 40 goals in 143 games for the Reds across competitions.
It was Virgil van Dijk who set the benchmark for defenders in the Premier League with the then-biggest price paid for a defender in Premier League history. The Dutch defender was brought to Liverpool from Southampton for a record-breaking fee of €84.65 million ahead of the 2018 season.
Van Dijk justified the big price tag by helping Liverpool win the Champions League within a few months of joining. Since then, he has emerged as one of the greatest ever to play in the Premier League with nine trophies, including two Premier League and one Champions League titles for Liverpool.
Right after breaking the Premier League record for the biggest transfer fee for a defender, Liverpool broke the World record for the highest money spent on a goalkeeper in the 2018/19 season.
The Brazilian goalkeeper joined Liverpool FC for a record €72.50 million transfer fee from AS Roma. The record was later broken by Kepa Arrizabalaga, who joined Chelsea FC from Athletic Club in the same season.
Since joining Liverpool, Becker has 127 clean sheets in 298 games for them across competitions. He also won the Premier League goalkeeper of the season award in his first season for Liverpool and went on to win the Champions League as well. Just like Van Dijk, Alisson has been one of the key players for the Reds, lifting two Premier League titles.
