Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first on a pitch reported to be slower compared to the other Asia Cup 2025 venue. Captain Salman Agha aimed to put early pressure on the opposition, but an immediate setback came when Saim Ayub was dismissed for a duck.
However, after a crucial dropped catch, right-hander Mohammad Haris seized the opportunity with aggressive hitting. Aamir Kaleem’s expensive final over of the powerplay, conceding 16 runs, provided the momentum Pakistan needed.
Despite a slow start, Pakistan managed a solid powerplay total of 47 for 1. Haris and Sahibzada Farhan punished the bowling attack, particularly during that expensive 16-run over, helping to boost the required run rate.
Haris continued to target the spinners effectively, landing a six and a boundary off Oman’s Samay Shrivastava, inching closer to his half-century. He reached his fifty off just 32 balls with a six against Sufyan Mehmood.
By the tenth over, Pakistan was well placed at 85 for 1, with Haris unbeaten on 55 and Farhan contributing 27 at the crease.
But, after Haris’ dismissal on 66 in the 13th over changed the course of the inning. After sending Haris back to the pavilion, Aamir Kaleem picked up captain Salman Agha’s wicket in the next ball, who could not hit the full toss out of the park.
Those two wickets halted the momentum of Pakistan’s innings as they lost wickets in the middle overs. Aamir Kaleem finished with 31/3 to stop Pakistan’s first inning on 160/7. Shah Faisal also returned with 34/3 for Oman.
