The FIFA World Cup 2026 will be jointly hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the USA, marking the first World Cup held across three nations. As the qualifiers continue, 29 of the 48 tournament spots have already been secured by teams from various continents. Here are the teams that have already qualified.

Co-hosts Automatically Qualified

  • Canada: Making their second consecutive appearance, having previously participated in 1986 and 2022.
  • Mexico: Hosting for the third time and appearing for the 18th time; their best performances were quarterfinals in 1970 and 1986.
  • USA: Automatically qualified for the second consecutive World Cup, hosting for the second time after 1994, with their best historical result being the 1930 semifinal.

    AFC (Asian Football Confederation)

    Eight direct qualification spots plus one place in the Play-Off Tournament:

  • Australia: Secured a sixth consecutive World Cup berth.
  • IR Iran: Qualified for the fourth successive World Cup after a dramatic group stage qualification.
  • Japan: Qualified early for their eighth consecutive World Cup.
  • Jordan: Qualified for their first-ever World Cup.
  • Korea Republic: Qualified for their 11th consecutive World Cup.
  • Uzbekistan: Secured their first-ever World Cup appearance.
  • Qatar: With their 2-1 victory over UAE in the fourth round of qualifiers, Qatar qualified for the FIFA World Cup 2026

    Saudi Arab: The Green Falcons qualified for their third consecutive World Cup, afte a goalless draw against Iraq on 14th October.

    CAF (Confederation of African Football)

    Nine direct qualification spots plus one Play-Off Tournament place:

  • Algeria: Qualified for the first time since 2014.
  • Egypt: Returned after missing Qatar 2022.
  • Morocco: First African team to qualify for 2026.
  • Tunisia: Qualified with two games remaining, displaying strong defensive form.
  • Cabo Verde: The Blue Sharks qualified for the maiden FIFA World Cup topping Group D. They are now the second-least populous nation to reach the World Cup, after Iceland at Russia 2018.

    Côte d'Ivoire: After their 3-0 win over Kenya in their final group F fixture, The Elephants secured their first FIFA World Cup qualification since 2014.

    Ghana: Ghana topped Group I of the qualifiers to make it to their fifth FIFA World Cup.

    Senegal: Seengal secured first place in Group B of the African qualifiers and qualified for their fifth FIFA World Cup.

    South Africa: With a 3-0 win over Rwanda on the final day of Group C qualifying, Bafana Bafana qualified for the FIFA World Cup, first time in 16 years.

    CONMEBOL (South American Football Confederation)

    Six automatic spots plus one Play-Off Tournament place:

    Argentina: Reigning world champions qualified early by topping their group.

    Brazil: After a shaky start, the five-time World Champions, qualified for the FIFA World Cup 2026.

    Colombia: The South American giants returned after missing the 2022 World Cup.

    Ecuador: The football loving nation qualified spot with two matches to spare.

    Paraguay: They qualified for the first time since 2010.

  • Uruguay: Qualified for their fifth consecutive World Cup.
  • UEFA (Union of European Football Associations)

    England: England qualified for their eighth successive World Cup with two games to spare after Thomas Tuchel's had a comfortable UEFA Qualifiers.

    France: After their commanding 4-0 win over Ukraine, which cemented their place at the top of Group D, the Les Blues qualified for the FIFA World Cup 2026.

    OFC (Oceania Football Confederation)

    One direct spot:

  • New Zealand: Qualified by defeating New Caledonia, marking their third World Cup appearance.
  • CONCACAF (North, Central America and Caribbean)

    Six direct spots and two Play-Off Tournament places, with three already filled by co-hosts Canada, Mexico, and USA.
