The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad continued to be a tough place to bat in the T20 World Cup 2026 as West Indian batters were grounded by a strong South African pace attack in today's high-stakes Super 8 match between West Indies and South Africa. After finishing 52/4 in the powerplay West Indies were pushed back to 109/7 at the end of the 14th over.

Rabada and Ngidi dominated the powerplay

As we noted in our earlier Powerplay report South African pacers exploited the early bounce to squeeze the Caribbean flair out of the game. Although Captain Shai Hope and Brandon King got off to a flyer, Kagiso Rabada's double-wicket over and then double strike from Lungi Ngidi restricted the West Indies to 47 for 4 after the first six overs.

Rabada set the tone by removing Shai Hope and the dangerous Shimron Hetmyer in a single over, while Lungi Ngidi dismissed Brandon King and Roston Chase.

The middle-over squeeze

After losing four wickets quickly, the West Indies tried to rebuild through Rovman Powell and Sherfane Rutherford. However, that was not met with clinical precision as Corbin Bosch produced an edge with a short ball against Rutherford, and Quinton de Kock made no mistake with a glove on.

Then, Lungi Ngidi, the star of the show, returned to claim his third wicket by forcing a missed-time shot from Powell, which was caught comfortably by Dewald Brevis.

After that, Corbin Bosch induced a bizarre scoop from Matthew Forde into the hands of a diving Ryan Rickelton, and West Indies started reeling on 83/7.

After that, a flurry from Jason Holder and Romario Shepherd helped them cross the hundred mark as the two-time champions look to put up a fighting total on the board at 109 for 7 after 14 overs.
