India batted first for the first time in the Asia Cup 2025 and lost the wicket of vice-captain Shubman Gill early in the innings at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Shah Faisal cleaned up the stumps of Gill, who had to go back to the dressing room after a not-so-impressive 5 from 8 balls.
Indian team management then sent Sanju Samson at number three to build a partnership with Abhishek Sharma. Abhishek, just like the first two games India played, started hitting the boundaries from the word go.

The left-handed opener scored a quick 38 off 15 balls before he was dismissed by Jiten Ramanandi, while chasing an outswinger which was very wide. Post Abhishek’s wicket, Gautam Gambhir and company sent Hardik Pandya at number four to spend some time at the crease.
Pandya played the first ball cautiously and took a single on the first ball to get off-strike. However, he did not know that the single would cause him trouble in the next ball.

Left-arm pacer Jiten Ramanandi bowled a slower ball, and Sanju Samson, who was looking very good by then, drove the ball hard back to the bowler with a straight bat. Jiten, though, was quick to get down and get a hand to the ball.
Post the slight deflection from Jiten, the ball rattled the stumps, and Hardik Pandya, who was backing a bit, could not get into the crease before the ball hit the wickets. Hardik did not even wait for the replays to finish as he knew he was out of the crease.
Hardik had to go back to the dressing room on 1 after one of the unluckiest dismissals as a batter.
