After tasting success with his rural thriller Maa Oori Polimera (that released directly on OTT via Disney+ Hotstar), director Anil Vishwanath is returning with the film’s sequel Polimera 2, scheduled to hit screens this weekend globally. Satyam Rajesh, Getup Srinu, Baladitya, Kamakshi Bhaskarla play key roles in the sequel. Ahead of the release, the director throws light on the film in a chat with OTTplay.com
The idea for a sequel
Even while we were writing the script for the first part, we had plans for the sequel. Given its intensity, the depth in characters and that we had a lot more to convey through the story, Polimera 2 went on floors organically. The film will start exactly where the prequel ended. It’s a continuation. Unlike what’s being proclaimed, there’s no connection with Karthikeya beyond the temple angle.

Ten-times more thrilling than the first part
Polimera 2 will be more enjoyable if you have watched Maa Oori Polimera already. There are huge expectations around the second part and the screenplay is much better. There are over eight mind-blowing twists in the story and they’ll be ten-times more thrilling than the first part. Many surprises await viewers and we have already announced Polimera 3. The story is ready.
Release plans for Polimera 2
The idea was to always release the second part theatrically. We made it without any compromises and have delivered a quality product. Thanks to Vamsi Nandipati, the film will have a wide release now. I am happy with producer Bunny Vas’ encouragement too. If I’m sure that the film will reach its target audience, it’s because of their presence.
Looking back at Maa Oori Polimera
We released the first part on OTT without much publicity. Hence, it was hard to get a genuine feedback for the film. There was good buzz for the film on social media. Subhalekha Sudhakar personally called me to appreciate my work and predicted that I would have a good future ahead. It was a true confidence booster.

Satyam Rajesh is an actor who’s hungry to prove his worth and better himself every time. He can perform any role with ease and respects his directors and producers well. Kamakshi Bhaskarla expressed her interest to be a part of the direction team. Though I wasn’t confident about her inclusion initially, I can assure she has all the qualities to be a good filmmaker in the times to come.
What next?
I want to make another film before the third part. If I do Polimera 3 now, there’s a good chance that crowds will label me a black magic specialist.
