The reception Sudha Kongara's Suriya-starrer Soorarai Pottru received from several quarters was exceptional. It was the first major Tamil film which had a premiere on Amazon Prime Video during the first wave of COVID-19. The movie opened to exceptional reviews from critics and audience alike.

A while ago, it was officially announced that the film will be remade into Hindi as well. Aparna Balamurali, Paresh Rawal, Mohan Babu, Urvashi and Karunas among others were seen essaying pivotal roles in the movie which was based on the novel, Simply Fly: A Deccan Odyssey, written by Simplify Deccan founder-and-entrepreneur GR Gopinath.

The film was celebrated by fans of Suriya and other film buffs for a long time after its OTT premiere last year. Soorarai Pottru had hit the headlines a couple of months ago when it was chosen as the Best Feature Film at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne 2021. Suriya also walked away with the Best Actor award for the film.

The production house of the movie, 2D Entertainment, released a video then in which Suriya and Jyotika were seen unboxing the award sent to them by the film festival crew. It was around the same time that none other than Amitabh Bachchan showered praises on the film.

The film is now in the news again as its music director GV Prakash had taken to Twitter to announce that Sony Music South has presented him an award. Apparently, the top performing album in Tamil and Telugu are from the movie. An excited GV posted a picture which has him along with Suriya and Sudha, and asked about the possibility of another collaboration of the same team.

All praise for GV's music in the film, Suriya replied that he can't thank the former and Sudha enough. He tweeted, "What an album what a journey can’t thank you both enough @gvprakash what should we wait for…!? Sudha…??? (sic)."
