Though the teaser of Cobra, the most-anticipated Vikram-starrer, was unveiled an year ago, the shooting of the film was incomplete. The production got delayed several times due to the pandemic and it was heard that the budget overshot after a point due to the exceeding number of shooting days.
Irfan Pathan, who plays a crucial role in the movie, had recently taken to his social media account to inform his fans that he had wrapped up his portions for the project. Now, director Ajay Gnanamuthu has expressed happiness for having completed the shooting which went on for three years.
He posted, "IT’S A WRAP!! Close to 3 years of filming comes to an end!! My sincere thanks to #ChiyaanVikram sir and my entire team who trusted me, sailed through all the struggles and difficult times with me and believed in the vision of #Cobra !! Forever indebted to each one of u! (sic)."
The filmmaker also posted a few stills from the location which featured himself, along with Vikram, Mirnalini Ravi and other crew members. They also celebrated the occasion by cutting a cake. But little did he expect that his tweet would face the ire of a few from the industry.
Producer T Siva and distributor Naganathan came down heavily on Ajay for not mentioning producer's name in the tweet. They felt that it was wrong from Ajay's part not to be thankful to the producer who stood by him despite the director's plan going haywire during the shooting.
They also criticized him for not sticking to the initially allocated budget for Cobra. The movie has Vikram fans pinning high hopes on it as his recent outing, Mahaan (streaming on Amazon Prime Video), skipped theatrical release. Cobra will be Vikram's theatrical release after three years, post Kadaram Kondan (streaming on Amazon Prime Video).
