Known is the fact that Ajith, who enjoys a huge fan base among Tamil audience, is referred to as 'Thala' by his hordes of admirers. Though he has had several monikers attached to his names in the title cards of his movies over the years, Thala was the most popular among them. 

However, the star has now requested fans, media and public not to refer him with the moniker any more. He conveyed the same through a message which was posted on Twitter by his manager. The Viswasam actor added that he wished to be referred as Ajith, Ajith Kumar or AK.

The message read, "To the respected members of the media, public and genuine fans. I henceforth wish to be referred to as Ajith, Ajith Kumar or just AK n not as "Thala" or any other prefix b4 my name. I sincerely wish you all a beautiful life filled with good health, happiness, success, peace of mind and contentment forever. Love Ajith (sic)."

Though the actor has been popularly referred to as Thala since his film Dheena (streaming on YouTube) released, the moniker was used only in Mankatha (streaming on MX Player and Jio Cinema).

Aasai Nayagan, Ultimate Star and Lucky Star were a few monikers which were earlier used in the title cards of a few of his movies. Ajith is now gearing up for the release of his action flick, Valimai, directed by H Vinoth. 

Produced by Boney Kapoor, the movie, which stars Huma Qureshi and Kartikeya Gummakonda, will release on January 13, 2022. Yuvan Shankar Raja has composed music for the film which has cinematography and editing by Nirav Shah and Vijay Velukutty respectively.
