Antony Varghese has made a name for himself by being part of action thrillers such as Angamaly Diaries, Swathanthryam Ardharathriyil and Ajagajantharam in the past few years. This year, however, he would be seen trying his hand at a variety of roles – the latest being a romantic hero in Laila.
The movie, which is directed by Antony’s friend and collegemate Abhishek KS, is a campus entertainer that has the actor playing the titular character. Antony had first faced the camera for a short film helmed by Abhishek a decade ago, and the working on the movie was more a dream-come-true moment for them, the actor had earlier said.
Apart from Antony, the movie, which is extensively shot in the duo’s alma mater Maharaja’s College, also has Nandana Rajan, Shabareesh Varma, Althaf Salim, Balachandran Chullikad, Sivakami, Sreeja Nair and Senthil Krishna as part of the cast. The team of Laila wrapped up shoot of the film, scripted by Anuraj OB, in Ernakulam recently.
The movie’s music is composed by Ankith Menon with Bablu Aju serving as its cinematographer. Both of them were also part of Vipin Das’ thriller Antakshari, which is currently streaming on Sony LIV.
Meanwhile, Antony has two films lined up for release next. He is part of Nikhil Premraj’s Aanaparambile World Cup, which has him essaying the role of a football player who coaches a group of young boys for a U-12 tournament held by a foreign club. The film, which also has Balu Varghese, Lukman Avaran, TG Ravi and IM Vijayan, is expected to release in theatres soon.
He is also set to make his OTT debut with Jis Joy’s upcoming thriller titled Innale Vare. The film also has Asif Ali, Nimisha Sajayan and Reba Monica John as part of the cast. Antony plays a technician in the movie, which completed shoot earlier this year.
