The shooting of Sathuranka Vettai 2 was wrapped up in 2017. Billed as a heist thriller, the movie is said to be the sequel of Sathuranka Vettai (streaming on Disney+ Hotstar), which released in 2014. Starring Arvind Swami and Trisha in lead roles, the film has Indrajith Sukumaran, Prakash Raj, Daniel Balaji and Nasser among others playing key roles in it.

H Vinoth had made his directorial debut with Sathuranka Vettai while the sequel has him writing the screenplay and dialogues. Salim (streaming on Zee5) fame NV Nirmal Kumar has directed the project the release of which got stalled due to financial issues.

KG Venkatesh and SP Raja Sethupathi have handled the film's cinematography and editing respectively while Ashwamithra has composed music. Produced by actor-filmmaker Manobala, the makers have now come up with an announcement regarding its theatrical release.

Though there were various speculation earlier with regard to the movie's direct-to-OTT release, the team has now announced that the long-delayed project will hit the screens in January. An update on the release date is expected to be out soon.

Interestingly, Vinoth's Ajith-starrer Valimai is also hitting the screens in January. He made Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru (streaming on Amazon Prime Video) and Nerkonda Paarvai (streaming on Zee5) after he completed Sathuranka Vettai 2.

Nirmal, on the other hand, made Mismatch in Telugu and announced Naa Naa, an action flick, starring Sarath Kumar and Sasikumar as protagonists. Though the film's first look was out more than a couple of years ago, there has been any update about the project.
