An FIR was filed against Ashneer Grover and his wife Madhuri Jain over mishandling of funds

Ashneer Grover, who became popular overnight after his stint on Shark Tank India season 1, has now been denied permission to travel to the UK. They were supposed to travel to be guest speakers there. The decision comes since Ashneer’s name is linked with an investigation over financial misconduct. Ashneer was the MD on BharatPe when he was on Shark Tank India but after the show ended, he too stepped down from the position and his name was linked with a financial misconduct.
Ashneer and wife denied permission to travel to the UK
Ashneer had applied for permission to travel in the last week of February, a report on Indian Express claims. The report confirms that an investigation officer from Economic Offences Wing’s (EOW) received the request. Ashneer and his wife Madhuri Jain were expected in the UK from March 9 to 15.
A lookout circular was issued against Ashneer and his family and the same was active since November 6. Owing to the same, they were restricted from travelling abroad.
The reason for the UK trip
Ashneer and his wife wanted to travel to the UK as guest speakers at the London School of Economics (LSE) and the University of Warwick. The request is now denied and whether they can still make it in any way remains unknown.
The FIR
EOW registered an FIR against Ashneer and Madhuri in May 2023, alleging mishandling of funds and causing losses of Rs. 81 crores to Resilient Innovations Private Limited. The FIR was registered under IPC 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating), 471 (using as genuine a forged document), and 120-B (criminal conspiracy).
The couple got to know about the same on November 16, when they were stopped at the Indira Gandhi International Airport – Terminal 3. They were travelling to the US back then.
The case’s hearing took place on February 1, Justice Subramonium Prasad announced that the case’s hearing will take place on May 8, stating that the court would need more time to investigate in the case.
