Back in 2023, Netflix had announced that Bandidos, the Mexican heist series, has been put under production, and now after ten months, it gets a release date today. The series is directed by Adrian Grunberg, who is famous for directing Get the Gringo (2012) and Rambo: Last Blood (2019).
Starring Alfonso Dosal and Ester Expósito in the leads, Bandidos will be released on March 13, 2024, only on Netflix. The Mexican actor Dosal is famous for A que no me dejas (2015), The Color of Passion (2014), Para volver a amar (2010), El cártel (2009) and Marina (2006). On the other hand, Expósito is famous for Netflix's teen-drama Élite (2018).
The story of Bandidos follows Miguel (Alfonso Dosal) and his daring accomplice, Lilí (Ester Expósito), dive headfirst into a dangerous adventure. Together with a crew of bandits, they embark on a daring heist, retrieving a legendary treasure hidden within the watery tomb of a Spanish galleon, sunk centuries ago in the Gulf of Mexico during the throes of revolution.
But the depths hold more than just the money. Danger is hidden in the shadows, as rival treasure hunters and unpredictable obstacles threaten their mission. Bandidos is a thrilling Spanish-language series that blends action, suspense, and high-stakes adventure. Don't miss the stellar performances by Juan Pablo Medina, Mabel Cadena, Nicolás Furtado, Andrés Baida, Andrea Chaparro, Juan Pablo Fuentes, and Bruno Bichir.
The most interesting part about Bandidos is, it features a central heist that takes place underwater, marking a unique approach from Netflix, that differentiates it from other crime dramas. This unconventional setting promises to be a visually stunning and potentially groundbreaking element of the show.
Bandidos marks Netflix’s one of the biggest Mexican thrillers, after Narcos: Mexico (2018), which ended in 2021 with three seasons. Narcos: Mexico showed amidst the chaos of 1980, as the Mexican army's actions left the Sinaloan countryside stumbling, an ambitious police officer named Miguel Angel Félix Gallardo dreamt of a different future. He envisioned building a drug empire in Guadalajara, an absolute opposite activity to the disruption that's happening to his nation. Meanwhile, a young DEA agent, Kiki Camarena, arrives in Mexico, his idealism clashing with the harsh realities that awaited.
