It doesn’t look like the buzz around the most successful film of 2023 is fading away anytime soon, at least not until Greta Gerwig comes out to say that she is making Barbie 2. The Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling-starrer took the world by storm last year with the promotions that were everything pink and the release that left even Christopher Nolan behind with his ambitious movie Oppenheimer. However, even after so many months, it seems like there is a lot more to learn about the movie. Like what, you ask? Well, what if we tell you Ben Affleck was supposed to be a part of the movie?

Was Ben Affleck Supposed To Be In Barbie?

Barbie has an interesting ensemble cast. There has been news of some prominent names who were supposed to be a part of the film but could not or would not. The latest revelation by Michael Cera, who played Allan in the movie, is that Ben Affleck was supposed to be in the film, and the reason for the Batman star not being in the movie was that he was directing Air at the same time.

Allan was one of the most interesting characters since there were many Kens but only one Allan, who was always sad for some reason. He is seen fighting in one scene in Barbie, which went on to become one of the most talked-about scenes. Speaking about this, ComicBook revealed that Michael said, "I wasn't even supposed to fight in the movie. Am I allowed to say what it was supposed to be? It was supposed to be Ben Affleck. Right? Am I allowed to say that?"

"I think Ben wanted to do it, but he was directing his movie. They're like, 'Okay, Ben's out; something has to happen here. So you're going to fight them.' So I had to jump in with the stunt team," he continued. "I had just gotten over COVID and they had me training, and I almost died just doing the warm-up! I had to lay down in my trailer and they sent a nurse to see me, and I was sent home. So then we had a second rehearsal, and I learned it. That's the story, basically."

This means that Ben Affleck had a part to play in Barbie, but what that is, we do not know yet.

Who Else Was Supposed To Star in Barbie?

While Ben Affleck’s cancelled part in Barbie has us fascinated, there were a couple of other prominent names that were approached by the makers to be a part of the movie but turned it down. This includes Timothee Chalamet and Greta Gerwig’s favourite Saoirse Ronan. Not just them; Dan Levy, known for his stint in Schitt’s Creek, was also approached to play a Ken but he turned down the offer.

Barbie In The News Again

Barbie has been the talk of the town for the past couple of weeks. The snub that the movie suffered at the Golden Globes 2024 didn’t go down well with fans. What agitated them even more was when the Academy Awards also snubbed the movie in the Oscar nominations. Both Margot Robbie and Great Gerwig were missing from the Best Actor Female and Best Director nominations. However, Ryan Gosling was nominated for Best Supporting Actor (Male). The internet is calling this the Barbie plot repeating itself in real life.
