Valimai, which is the actor-director's second project together, will hit the screens on Pongal 2022
A still from the film
The makers of Ajith-starrer Valimai had announced a few months ago that the action thriller will release on January 2022 as a Pongal release, contrary to the earlier speculation of the movie being planned as a Deepavali release. However, the team is yet to announce the date on which the Vinoth directorial will hit the screens.
Kartikeya Gummakonda will play the antagonist in the movie which will have Huma Qureshi, Achyuth Kumar, Pavel Navageethan and Yogi Babu among others essaying crucial roles. Yuvan Shankar Raja has composed music for the project which has been produced by Boney Kapoor.
It was also unofficially said that the team of Valimai, including Ajith, Vinoth and Boney, will join hands again for another project. Tentatively titled Thala 61, the project will bring the trio together for the third time. Their first collaboration was for Nerkonda Paarvai (streaming on Zee5) which had hit the screens in 2019.
The grapevine has it that the movie, which will kick start soon after Valimai gets released, will be finished in a short span of time. An official announcement on the details of the movie will be out soon after Valimai hit the screens.
Having said that, the news doing the rounds is that Ajith will be seen portraying a character with grey shades in it. It's been a long time since the actor has donned a negative role. Venkat Prabhu's Mankatha (streaming on MX Player and Jio Cinema) was the last film in which he unapologetically portrayed a bad guy.
A couple of years later, a scene in Vishnuvardhan's Arrambam (streaming on YouTube), too, had him pulling off an evil role. For now, fans of Ajith are keeping their fingers crossed about an official update on the project.
