In the nine years that the Bengal Tigers have been participating in the Celebrity Cricket League, they’ve not played the Mumbai Heroes very often, primarily on account of being in the same group pool. The few times that they have played each other, the Mumbai Heroes have emerged victors, so they had into the qualifier match against the Tigers with that advantage today. The two teams will play each other at the Greenfield Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram at 6.30 pm in the second qualifier of the tournament.
The Bengal Tigers had played the first qualifier against the Karnataka Bulldozers on March 15, which they lost, their second defeat at the hands of the latter this season. The Bulldozers have an unbeaten record against the Tigers and have booked a finale seat. Today’s second qualifier, between the loser of the first qualifier and winner of the eliminator (Mumbai Heroes), will decide who plays against the Bulldozers on March 17.
At the start of the tournament, CCL co-founder Vishnuvardhan Induri had said that he hopes that this will be the year that a team from north India emerges victor. While the Mumbai Heroes have won the tournament once, the Bhojpuri Dabanggs came tantalizingly close last year, when they lost in the final to the Telugu Warriors. 8 out of 9 times, the championship went to teams from the south, twice each to the Chennai Rhinos and Karnataka Bulldozers and four times to the Telugu Warriors.
Induri has been batting for the Bengal Tigers, one of the teams that has shown immense sportsmanship in all departments of the game. They’ve come prepared, which is very evident in the way they’ve conducted themselves on the field. In fact, Salman Khan, who is the brand ambassador of the Mumbai Heroes is said to be rooting for the Bengal Tigers, led by Jisshu Senguptha.
