Teen dramas are a genre audiences cannot seem to get enough of. Although there are a number of shows in the genre in other languages, India is yet to tap into the same, that is, until Class. The Hindi adaptation of the hit Spanish drama released on Friday. Making his OTT debut in the show is Chintan Rachchh. In a recent interview, the actor spoke in length about how he landed the role of Faruq on the show.

In conversation with Indulge Express, Chintan revealed that he had gotten to know about auditions going on for the show in 2020. He realised that while English language teen dramas like 13 Reasons Why, Riverdale etc had gained global popularity, there was not a single show of a similar genre from India.

During his audition, the casting director had given him the freedom to essay the character whichever way he wanted, after explaining the plot and characterisation to Chintan. “The aim was to get a gist of how I enact the lines of Faruq, my character”, said the actor.

After the lockdown was declared, Chintan received a call telling him that the show’ creator and director Ashim Ahluwalia had liked his audition, saying he bagged the role.

The actor says that despite doing well in the audition, he does not relate to a single aspect of his character, apart from maybe Faruq’s fashion sense and his tendencies to suppress his feelings. On the show itself, Chintan says that the show is much more than a high school teen show, and was more about the struggles and natures of young adults in general. “Class is the first-of-its-kind show in our country. It’s visually stunning and made in an Indian context which adds to the relatability factor”, he said.

Catch Chintan as Faruq on Class, which is available for streaming on Netflix.
