Darlings teaser: Alia Bhatt gets undivided attention as a mysterious, quirky character in Netflix's black comedy

After a teaser with just a voiceover, Netflix India has finally dropped the teaser for Darlings. The film, featuring Alia Bhatt in the lead role, also stars Shefali Shah, Vijay Varma, and Roshan Mathew. The teaser has Alia's voiceover where she is narrating the story of a frog and a scorpio about how they cannot be friends. Meanwhile, she is seen falling in love with Vijay's character and how they start to lead happy life.

However, the teaser also shows him having doubts about Alia's character cheating on him with Roshan. Meanwhile, she is shown to be extremely close to Shefali as they play mother and daughter. They are seen talking to the cop, played by Vijay Maurya, about how they have not committed any crime but only thought about it.

The movie examines the lives of a quirky mother-daughter pair who, despite navigating through extraordinary situations, find strength and love as they seek to find their way in the world. It is set against the backdrop of a conservative lower middle-class neighbourhood in Mumbai.

Earlier, during an exclusive interaction with OTTplay, Roshan had spoken about being a part of Darlings. He had said that having Alia Bhatt, Shefali Shah, and Vijay Varma as his co-stars made the film more intriguing. They are all outstanding actors, according to what he has observed of their work. The majority of his scenarios involved them, and he appreciated it.

The black comedy-drama Darlings is written and directed by debutant Jasmeet K Reen from a Parveez Sheikh screenplay. It is Alia Bhatt's debut endeavour as a producer and is also backed by Gauri Khan, Gaurav Verma, and Alia. The musical contribution to Darlings is given by Gulzar and Vishal Bharadwaj.

The Netflix premiere is set for August 5, 2022.
