Here’s a recap of the significant stories in entertainment across Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada films, and sometimes the odd television series as well.

The trailer of Elaveezhapoonchira introduces Soubin Shahir as Madhu PM, a small-time cop stationed at a wireless police station amidst the hills in Kottayam. When a murder happens in the sleepy hill station, Madhu is put to work, as he gradually begins to learn his purpose as a cop.

Directed by Shahi Kabir, the Malayalam film has been written by Nidhish G and Shaji Maraad and produced by Vishnu Venu. While Anil Johnson has composed the film’s music, Manesh Madhavan has cranked the camera.

Amazon Prime Video is back with one of its most-loved series, now set in Hyderabad – Modern Love Hyderabad which is inspired by the famous New York Times Modern Love column. The trailer gives us glimpses of the six stories exploring dating, lovers, mother-daughter moments, a grandmother’s love, and a lot more. 

Nagesh Kukunoor, Shashi Sudigala, and Bahaish Kapoor have penned the stories. It stars Aadhi Pinisetty, Nithya Menen, Ritu Varma, Suhasini Maniratnam, Revathy, Naresh, Malavika Nair, Abijeet Duddala, Naresh Agastya, Komalee Prasad, and Ulka Gupta. Produced by Elahe Hiptoola, the anthology series is directed by Nagesh Kukunoor, Venkatesh Maha, Uday Gurrala, and Devika Bahudhanam.

Produced by Dr. Ishari K Ganesh, Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu starring Silambarasan TR and Siddhi Idnani is scheduled to release on September 15. The makers announced the release date with a teaser set in the backdrop of what looks like a boys’ hostel or mansion blocks. 

Billed as an action drama, Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu is written by Jeyamohan and directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon. The music is scored by AR Rahman. Anthony takes care of the editing and Siddhartha Nuni handles the cinematography. 

Silambarasan’s next Pathu Thala directed by Obeli N Krishna is slated to release on December 14, 2022. Produced by Jayantilal Gada and KE Gnanavelraja, the film also stars Gautham Karthik and Priya Bhavani Shankar.  

Ram Pothineni plays the Deputy Superintendent of Police in N Lingusamy’s The Warriorr. The trailer gives us glimpses of him delivering punch dialogues and fighting criminals. Krithi Shetty plays a radio jockey and Aadhi Pinnishetty plays Guru, a local rowdy. The plot is centered around Ram Pothineni and Aadhi Pinnishetty, who lock horns in this cop thriller. 

The Warriorr features Ram Pothineni, Aadhi Pinnishetty, Krithi Shetty, Akshara Gowda, and Nadhiya Moidu in important roles. It is produced by Srinivasaa Chitturi under the banner Srinivasa Silver Screen. While Devi Sri Prasad scores the music, Sujith Vassudev handles the camera and Navin Nooli heads the editing. 

Sunny fame Ranjith Sankar is all set to direct a tale of college, friendship, and love titled 4 years. His Twitter caption read “4 years is about Gayathri and Vishal, their college sunrises, canteen sunsets, and hostel midnights”. 

The poster set in the backdrop of a college classroom has a short screenplay narrating the conversation between Gayathri and Vishal on what is the opposite of love. There is also a time code that states 2022 – 2026 – 2030, so it looks like the story of 4 years will unravel within these years. Madhu Neelakandan helms the camera and Shankar Sharma does the music.

Mathu Vadalara fame Ritesh Rana’s next outing Happy Birthday is a no-logic comedy set in a bizarre world where everyone is entitled to carry a gun. It explores a diamond robbery maze set in the crazy world of guns.

Happy Birthday stars Lavanya Tripati, Naresh Agastya, Satya, Vennela Kishore, and Gundu Sudarshan in important roles. The film is produced by Chiranjeevi (Cherry) & Hemalatha Pedamallu and presented by Naveen Yerneni & Ravi Shankar Yalamanchili. Suresh Sarangam helms the camera, Kaala Bhairava scores the music and Karthika Srinivas R handles the editing. 

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences presents the Academy Awards aka Oscars. It extended an invitation to 397 artists to join the organisation in 2022. Among the invitees was also Suriya, who became the first Tamil actor to be invited by The Academy. Bollywood actress Kajol was also invited by The Academy. Suriya took to Twitter to announce that he humbly accepts the offer, and also thanked them for the invitation. 

Itlu Maredumilli Prajaneekam is about a tribal village and the tribals’ daily trials and tribulations. The government sends officers to the village to make the tribals register for their voting rights. What unfolds after this forms the major plot of the story. 

AR Mohan has written and directed Itlu Maredumilli Prajaneekam, starring Allari Naresh, Anandhi, Vennela Kishore, Praveen, and Sampath Raj. It is produced by Razesh Danda under the banner Zee Studios and Hasya Movies. Sricharan Pakala is the music director, Raam Reddy is the DOP and Chota K Prasad is the editor. 

Paayum Oli Nee Yenakku hints at an action thriller. Directed and produced by Karrthik Adwait, it stars Vikram Prabhu, Dhananjaya, Vani Bhojan and Vivek Prasanna. Sridhar is the DOP, Sagar is the music director and Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao is the editor. 

Prithviraj’s Kaduva  is set against the backdrop of the 90s and revolves around the rivalry between Kaduvakkunel Kuruvachan (Prithviraj Sukumaran), a break-all-rules businessman, and a high-ranking police officer (Vivek Oberoi). It marks the comeback of direct Shaji Kailas t the Malayalam industry after almost a decade. Kaduva was earlier slated to hit the theatres on June 30, but was postponed. It is now set to release on July 7. 

The film also stars Vijayaraghavan, Saikumar, Dileesh Pothan, Alencier Ley Lopez, and Janardhanan. The script is by Jinu V Abraham and Sujith Vaassudev is shooting it. Jakes Bejoy has composed the film’s songs and background score. Shameer Muhammed has handled the editing. It is produced by Supriya Menon and Listin Stephen under the banner of Prithviraj Productions & Magic Frames. 

Hansika Motwani’s Maha is written and directed by debutant UR Jameel. After several delays, Maha is set to hit the theatres on July 22. Silambarasan also plays an important cameo in this thriller. It is produced by Mathi Azhagan under the banner of Etcetera Entertainment. The film also stars Sanam Shetty,  Thambi Ramaiah, Karunakaran and Mahat Raghavendra. Gibran has composed the music, Madhi has handled the camera and Johan Abraham has done the editing. 

Debutant Sanal V Devan directs Kunjammini’s Hospital starring Indrajith Sukumaran and Nyla Usha. The story is scripted by Abhayakumar and Anik Kurian. It is produced by Santhosh Thrivikraman. The film went on floors on 27 June. Ajay David Kachappilly is the cinematographer and Mansoor Muthutty handles the editing. Ranjin Raj has scored the music for the film. 

On Harish Kalyan’s birthday, the makers of Diesel released a glimpse video giving a sneak peek into its world of industries, harbour, and action. Directed by Shanmugam Muthusamy, Diesel also stars Athulya Ravi, Vinay, Sai Kumar,Ananya, Vivek prasanna, Thangadurai and Kpy Dheena. The film is produced by SP Cinemas. The music is composed by Dhibu Ninan Thomas. MS Prabhu is the cinematographer and San Lokesh is the editor. 

Directed by Ambarisha M, Hope is billed as a political thriller. According to the Government circular, no transfers should happen for any officer for a minimum period of two years. However, when a government official who has been working in a particular location for only eight months is transferred, she stands up for her rights. The film then shifts to court, where she hires a senior expert to fight for her. Why is she transferred? Will she be able to win?

Hope stars Shwetha Srivatsav, Pramod Shetty, Prakash Belawadi, Gopal Krishna Deshpande, and Sumalatha Ambareesh. The story is penned by Varshaa Sanjeev. S Halesh is the DOP, Harish Komme is the editor and Ritvik Muralidhar is the music director. The film is produced by Varshaa Sanjeev under the banner Goldie Productions Presents.
