Aavesham, the latest from director Jithu Madhavan, is releasing in theatres today, ahead of which he had a special note for audiences in Kuwait. The Fahadh Faasil-led film got a cut recommendation for one scene, which, the filmmaker says could likely cause some confusion while watching the film, but should not hamper the overall viewing experience. Jithu took to social media about this development, urging audiences to still watch the film in theatres.

Responses to the post were largely from audiences across the globe, where censor rules effected cuts in the narrative, stating that the reason most people now wait for the OTT release of films is to be able to watch it as a filmmaker envisioned.

OTTplay checked in with a source in Kuwait, who confirmed that there’s been a cut, as the scene in question was problematic as per their rule book. “It’s a minor element, involving a bunch of guys and girls locked in a room. That can’t be shown here and, hence, was cut. But even with the cut, the storyline is not affected,” says the source.

Although Jithu has repeatedly maintained that Aavesham has no connection to his earlier film Romancham, the buzz on social media is that there is some link after all. Chemban Vinod, who was in Romancham, had said something to that effect, implying that his character was getting a spin-off movie. And since Fahadh was playing a gang leader and Aavesham’s story was also set in Bengaluru, which the former speaking a mix of Kannada and Malayalam, it led to widespread speculation that Jithu was trying to keep a lid on this ‘twist’ in the tale.

Aavesham is said to be based on an incident that Jithu experienced during his college days. The filmmaker has been bullish that audiences who did not like Romancham would be more likely to take a fancy to Aavesham.
