We had reported earlier that a few crucial portions of Kadugannawa Oru Yathra, one of the segments of Netflix anthology based on MT Vasudevan Nair’s stories, will be shot in Sri Lanka. Mammootty plays the lead in the film which has Ranjith at its helm.

The Mollywood Megastar has now paid a visit to the island nation for shooting despite the country going through a never-before-seen political crisis. Former Sri Lankan cricketer Sanath Jayasuriya has surprised one and all by posting a couple of pictures of Mammootty from his social media page.

All praise for the veteran Malayalam actor, Jayasuriya thanked him for his visit to the country and requested other Indian stars to follow the former's footsteps. An elated Jayasuriya tweeted, "It was an honour to meet Senior Malayalam actor @mammukka. Sir you are a true super star. Thank you for coming to Sri Lanka. I would like to invite all Indian stars & friends to #VisitSriLanka to enjoy our country (sic)."

Needless to say, the social media post of the former cricketer has helped the film earn attention from several quarters. Kadugannawa Oru Yathra is the first Malayalam movie to be shot in Sri Lanka in the pandemic era.

It was initially supposed to be directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery who helmed Mammootty's forthcoming project Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam. However, Ranjith came on board later and joined others like Priyadarshan, Santosh Sivan, Jayaraj, Shyamaprasad, Rathish Ambat, Ashwathy and Mahesh Narayanan, who have also directed movies in the anthology.

Mammootty and Ranjith are joining hands after Puthan Panam which was released in 2017. The actor-filmmaker duo had earlier teamed up for a few notable projects like Black, Paleri Manikyam and Pranchiyettan and The Saint.
