Gajraj Rao, who has gained widespread recognition, struggled a lot in Mumbai during his early years in the industry. The Badhaai Ho actor recently recounted an instance where he had only Rs 6 left in his wallet.
Gajraj recalls stating in a conversation with Hindustan Times, “Before shifting to Mumbai, I visited the city to find work. I was staying at my friend’s place for a month and was writing a script. That time, paise mere khatam ho gaye the. (I had no money left.)”
Gajraj continued to say, “I went from Andheri to Worli to narrate that script and they rejected my script. Meri jab mein kul mila ke 5-6 rupaye the. (I had only Rs 5-6 in my pocket) I didn’t know what to do. Should I take a local train to go back home in those six rupees or should I eat something? Mujhe puri ummeed thi ki meri script approve ho jayegi and I will get an advance. Wo jo tha na… uss din meri aankhon mein paani aagaya ki main karunga kya? (I was certain that my script would be accepted and that I would receive an advance. That day, I had tears in my eyes.)”
The actor needed to borrow money from his friend to get back home. Gajraj remembered how embarrassed he had been at the moment. Gajraj's friend handed him 500 rupees after he told him everything. He continued, "It was a big amount back then. Sharmindagi bhi ho rahi thi mujhe ki ye situation aagayi hai meri, mujhe ye sab karna padra hai. (I was quite embarassed that I had to do this) ."
He continued by saying how crucial a lesson it had been for him to learn not to believe promises made to him. He explained, "Because the producer who called me said chinta mat karo, (don’t worry) even if the script doesn’t work… he didn’t stick to his words.”
Meanwhile, Gajraj will next be seen in Maja Ma. The film was produced by Amritpal Singh Bindra and Leo Media Collective. Anand Tiwari directed the movie, and Sumit Batheja penned the story. Madhuri Dixit is shown to be a middle-class mother of two who battles to keep the ideals she has always held dear in the film's trailer, which was unveiled on Thursday. The cast of Maja Ma includes Madhuri, Ritwik Bhowmik, Srishti Shrivastava, Rajit Kapur, Sheeba Chaddha, and Barkha Singh. Maja Ma will be accessible on Prime Video beginning on October 6.
