Those who have been eagerly waiting for Premam director Alphonse Puthren’s comeback directorial Gold to hit theatres during Onam will have to contain the anticipation a bit longer. The makers of the film took to their social media pages on Thursday to confirm that the movie will not be hitting theatres on Onam as initially promised.
Director Alphonse, who has also scripted and edited the film, took to his social media account late on Thursday to apologise for deferring the movie’s release and also announce its new release date. The Prithviraj Sukumaran and Nayanthara-starrer was initially set to hit theatres on September 8, making it the biggest release of the festive season and setting up a clash with Siju Wilson’s Pathonpathaam Noottaandu and Biju Menon’s Oru Thekkan Thallu Case.
Citing the reason for the delay, Alphonse said that some work has been pending from the team’s side. The director also revealed that the movie will now hit theatres a week after Onam, on September 15 or 16. “Hoping to compensate this delay through our work when Gold releases,” wrote the filmmaker.
His post immediately had the fans drawing parallels to the delay before Premam had released in 2015. The Nivin Pauly-starrer too was delayed multiple times before it eventually hit theatres and became one of the biggest hits of the year.
Gold, which is touted to be an entertainer, has an ensemble cast featuring Vinay Forrt, Lalu Alex, Deepti Sati, Chemban Vinod Jose, Shabareesh Varma, Shanthi Krishna, Ajmal Ameer, Althaf Salim, Roshan Mathew and Saiju Kurup. The movie also promises several surprise cameos.
While Alphonse has only released a teaser and a few posters of the film as a promo material, earlier this week, there were rumours that a promo song rendered by Prithviraj will be revealed by the makers ahead of the release. This is the second Onam release that has been postponed after Kunchacko Boban and Arvind Swami’s Ottu, which had faced a roadblock with the censoring of its Tamil version.
