The makers of Pathu Thala announced that the Simbu and Gautham Karthik-starrer will be released in theatres on December 14, this year. The teaser, titled, 'Glimpses into Pathu Thala' was unveiled on Simbu's birthday (February 3). While the film is an official remake of the 2017-Kannada film, Mufti, the VTV actor essays a gangster called AGR. Also, Gautham Karthik plays an undercover cop. (The original featured Shivarajkumar and Sriimurali in lead roles. In the Tamil version, Simbu reprises the character played by Shivanna.)
Pathu Thala, further, stars Priya Bhavani Shankar, who made a blink-and-miss appearance in the teaser. The supporting cast of the film includes Gautham Vasudev Menon, Kalaiyarasan, and Teejay Arunasalam, among others.
Touted to be a crime thriller, set in Kanyakumari, Pathu Thala is produced by Jayantilal Gada and KE Gnanavelraja.
Directed by Obeli N Krishna of Sillunu Oru Kaadhal-fame, this one has cinematography by Farook J Basha, and editing by Praveen KL.
Meanwhile, Simbu has the Gautham Vasudev Menon directorial Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu, slated to release on September 15.
Pathu Thala has music by AR Rahman, and the director is teaming up with the Oscar-winning composer, exactly 15 years after the success of Sillunu Oru Kaadhal.
In an interview with a leading English daily, Simbu once said he wasn't here to prove anything to anyone. "It felt like I was always fighting with everyone, including myself. Then I realised, who should I fight? What Jesus said about showing the other cheek didn’t make sense to me then but it does now. If you want to slap me, please go ahead.”
Simbu added he’s longer trying to be the next Rajinikanth. “I’m not running a rat race anymore. Even if I’m running, it’s because I’m enjoying it...not because I want to come first!”
