The trailer for the thriller Jalsa, which brings Vidya Balan and Shefali Shah together on screen for the first time, was recently released by Amazon Prime Video.

Balan plays a journalist named Maya, while Shah is seen as her house-help Rukshana. Jalsa is directed by Suresh Triveni, who recently spoke about having both these acting powerhouses in his film.

“I like making films because I get an opportunity to work with brilliant actors. Vidya, after working on Tumhari Sulu, I knew that working with her, you are spoilt, and you want to go back to her with another film. So that was one single motive. The second was after I watched Delhi Crime, and of course, I’ve been following Shefali’s work for some time. I was just too greedy and then I thought, this idea came that, what if I bring these two together?, said Triveni, according to News18.

The trailer showed how the story follows a high profile hit-and-run, which is astutely followed by Maya and her subordinate. In the quest to find the truth, more layers and players to this case are discovered.

Also part of the cast are Rohini Hattangadi Mavan Kaul Iqbal Khan Srikant Mohan Shafeen Patel and Surya Kasibhatla.

The thriller marks Balan’s third collaboration with Abundantia and Amazon Prime after Shakuntala Devi and Sherni.

Jalsa, which releases on Amazon Prime Video on March 18, is produced by T-Series and Abundantia Entertainment.
