The sixth episode of What The Hell Navya Season 2, released on Thursday, saw host Navya Naveli Nanda's grandmother, Jaya Bachchan, take a strong stand on the internet. She especially blamed it for increasing the cases of anxiety among the younger generation. Read on...

Jaya Bachchan blames the internet for rising anxiety attacks in youngsters

In the recently released sixth episode, Jaya Bachchan said that anxiety problems in the modern era are largely caused by the internet. She made a passing reference to the much-debated topic of information overload. Jaya Bachchan explained how the younger generation uses the internet as a source of validation, which impacts. She said, “You don’t think you are stressed but you are. We hadn’t heard of an anxiety attack when we were kids. We never heard it in our midlife also." Jaya ji further pointed out that this comes from too much information that is being constantly fed to the younger generation. She noted that information like how someone looks, about getting their nails and makeup done, etc., all leads to anxiety buildup.

Shweta Bachchan Nanda disagrees with Jaya Bachchan

Jaya Bachchan’s daughter, Shweta Nanda Bachchan, however, had a different opinion and said that anxiety has always been there but is easier to recognise now. The mother-daughter duo also had differing viewpoints on online shopping and the use of artificial intelligence (AI). For instance, discussing her experience with shopping online, Jaya ji said that she is rather dissatisfied with her online purchases upon their arrival. Meanwhile, Shweta disagreed and maintained that she prefers buying everything from clothes to makeup online as she doesn't like standing in queues. To this, Jaya ji retorted, "I’ve never had to stand in a line."

Jaya Bachchan is also vehemently opposed to the use of AI. She thinks that human beings cannot be replaced by technology, no matter how sophisticated. Talking about the same, she pointed out, "It will have a rippling effect and then people will say, ‘This is not good. Let’s go back to how things were'."
