Joker: Folie à Deux, aka Joker 2, will hit the big screen on October 4 and is one of the most anticipated films of the year
Nothing can beat the anticipation that Joker: Folie à Deux, aka Joker 2, is riding on. The sequel to the billion-dollar solo flick shattered records and created some new ones. Now, as Todd Phillips sets out on a new journey with Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga by his side, there is much to be excited about. We have heard a lot of things already—many rumours that have turned out to be substantial. As it turns out, as the studio is now working on post-production, they have decided to confirm things, and the first revelation is the new and recurring cast.
The New Cast:
As Joker: Folie à Deux, aka Joker 2, takes us inside the Arkham Asylum, there will be multiple new characters introduced, mostly inspired by the comics. Out of the 13 announced cast members, two are recurring characters: Joaquin Phoenix playing the titular part and Zazie Beetz reprising her role as Sophie, Arthur’s love interest, in the first part. Lady Gaga is, of course, Harley Quinn. Jacob Lofland has been cast as an inmate in the Arkham Asylum. The rest of the nine names include some very talented people playing undisclosed characters. The complete list of actors is as follows:
What is Joker 2 about?
Taking the story of Joaquin Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck ahead, the narrative unfolds in the infamous Arkham Asylum. The sequel will take place in the asylum, where he meets Harley Quinn. Interestingly, the movie marks Lady Gaga’s DCU debut as the iconic Quinn, making her the second actor to play the complex character ever. Directed by Todd Phillips and shaped by him, the movie is set to be a musical, which is not surprising given how Gaga and music are inseparable.
Release Date And Box Office:
Set to release on October 4, 2024, the movie is actually a part of DC Elseworlds, a wing that features characters not part of the main DCU timeline. The sequel has become the most awaited movie of the year, and the most interesting part is the curiosity around the box office and whether it will replicate the numbers the first film earned. The first had grossed over $1 billion at the global box office. While there are already plans to give this standalone franchise a future, whether Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker will ever enter the main timeline is a big mystery. Only time will tell. But Joker: Folie à Deux right now sits with Batman Part II, and other intriguing projects are joining them in the DC Elseworlds’ lineup as we speak. The new dawn of the DCU has just begun.
