A young student was reportedly killed at the Main Hostel of the university
West Bengal politics is agitated over the death of the JU student. The campus is heated, and several incidents of clashes between different student organisations are in the news. Amidst all these, ex-student and actress Ushasie Chakraborty reacted to the issue. The actress, who is an alumnus of JU, said, “I never knew that ragging takes place in the main hostel.”
Ushasie recently talked about the student's death in national news media. That channel claimed that ‘Jadavpur is the birthplace of the Maoists movement.’ Ushasie took offense at this claim and said, “You are pretending like no studies are done in Jadavpur University and everyone always stays in the dark. It is not true.”
Ushasie then added, “I did my MPhil and PhD from JU. We studied and had fun in our campus life. I never knew that there was ragging in the main hostel.” The net world was shocked at this comment.
Regarding the installation of CCTV on the campus, Ushasie said, “I can not say anything about this. But I want ragging to be stopped immediately.” Ushasie, who is popular as June Aunty on television, called for joining the protest rally of the JU alumni a couple of days back.
