Vikram, which was released in theatres on June 3, exceeded all the expectations and went on to become the highest grossing Tamil film in Tamil Nadu. The Kamal Haasan-starrer released amid humongous expectations, and yet, it managed to impress his fans and other film lovers.
The fast-paced screenplay, pulsating background score, performances of actors and stunning action sequences in the movie kept the audience glued to their seats. The gargantuan success of the project has made Lokesh Kanagaraj the most sought-after filmmaker in south India now. The movie bankrolled by Kamal's Raaj Kamal Films International dropped on Disney+ Hotstar on July 8.
In a recent chat with Galatta Plus, Kamal Haasan opened up about the unanticipated footfall Vikram received from Tamil Nadu. He said that parties associated with the trade often tell him that 80 lakh is the maximum possible footfall which any film is likely to garner in today's times in the state.
However, Kamal said he never believed in it and that Vikram broke the myth. According to him, the blockbuster movie received 1.5 crore footfall only from the southern state. Kamal Haasan's ever popular hit film Apoorva Sagodharargal which was released in 1989, too, garnered more or less the same footfall.
Kamal Haasan is now set to resume shooting for Shankar's much-awaited sequel, Indian 2, after which he will join Mahesh Narayanan's untitled movie. Fans of the Ulaganayagan are eagerly waiting for Vikram 2 which is expected to bring Suriya's Rolex and Karthi's Dilli in it.
Lokesh Kanagaraj is likely to work on the sequel after he completes Thalapathy 67 (tentative title) with Vijay. A sequel to Kaithi is another project fans of the filmmaker are looking forward to.
