The second week of October does not have too many options for Kannada cinephiles. Fans of Action Queen Malashree may be in for a treat with her new film, but with Dasara only a week away and Century Star Shivarajkumar’s much-awaited Ghost set to release, along with a bunch of other language biggies, some of which will have Kannada-dubbed versions, not many have risked a theatrical outing that may just be less than a week. Here’s a look at the films that will be new in theatres and OTT. Last week’s Rajamarthanda, Fighter and Abhiramachandra are also still in select movie halls.

Marakastra

Action Queen Malashree’s latest is the suspense thriller flick Marakastra, in which she is playing a police officer. Directed by Gurumurthy Tsunami, the film also features Harshika Poonacha as a crime reporter, along with Anand Arya, Bharath Singh, and Ugram Manju in pivotal roles. Thriller Manju, who got Malashree the moniker Action Queen, has composed four stunt sequences for her in the film.

Jalapaatha

Rajneesh M plays Vihan, an American-born desi who returns to India in search of his grandmother. Along the way, he uncovers the complexities of his family and the rich culture of the Malenadu people. Also starring Nagashree Begar, Pramod Shetty, Rekha Premkumar and BL Ravikumar, the film has been directed by Ramesh Begar.

Kasargold

This action-packed entertainer with Asif Ali and Sunny Wayn in the lead, directed by Mridul Nair, is not only about gold smuggling and youngsters trying to make a fast buck by risking this illegal activity and offers audiences much more to chew on, despite its relatively short run-time at only 2 hours and 20 minutes. The Malayalam original film is coming to Netflix this week and will be available with Kannada audio.
