Kasargold’s Asif Ali: ‘Earlier, I used to be hesitant to do mass entertainers’

Lately, Asif Ali has been busy promoting his action-packed movie, Kasargold. While speaking at a press conference recently, the actor admitted that he lacked the confidence to feature in movies that showcase his stardom.

According to the actor, his previous films were often labelled as movies that promote drugs, prompting him to shift towards feel-good dramas and more realistic films. “I had a lack of confidence to do mass entertainers until BTech happened, because It is more difficult to do a mass film compared to a realistic film,” Asif said in the interview.

Asif Ali on mass entertainers

The actor believes that one must have faith in their performance and screen presence to excel in a massy movie. The attitude and style of an actor are key in creating a film that appeals to the masses. Asif also mentioned that he was interested in pursuing mass entertainers after the 2019 film Underworld, but he did not receive any suitable scripts for such projects. The actor described Kasargold as an entertaining film that offers a unique audio-visual experience, rather than a typical masala film.

Asif also spoke about the ‘double standard’ of the Malayalam audience when it comes to mass films in other languages and those in Malayalam. He cited RDX: Robert Dony Xavier as an example of how the Malayalam audience appreciate and welcome mass entertainers. Asif said he is hopeful that Kasargold, like RDX, will entertain audiences in the theatres.

Helmed by Mridul Nair, Kasargold stars Asif, Sunny Wayne and Vinayakan. The movie will hit the cinemas on September 15. The film is an action entertainer that marks the reunion of Asif and Mridul after their commercial hit, BTech. The trailer of Kasargold hints at a colourful entertainer with thrilling action sequences. Going by the trailer, Vishnu Vijay’s background score and music will be something to look forward to in the film. Malavika Sreenath and Swasika play the two female leads in the movie, produced by Yoodlee Films.
