Timotheé Chalamet turns 28 today, making one fondly remember the actor’s teenage debut in Homeland in 2012. He had his film debut in Men, Women and Children in 2014, and then hit the big bannered films with Interstellar. After 2017, he has never looked back.

Despite being in his twenties, the actor has been nominated for an Oscar, three Golden Globes, three BAFTAs, five Critics’ Choice Awards, and five Screen Actors Guild Awards, emblematic of his acting mettle and versatility. The following five films further hold a candle to that fact.

Still running in the theatres, Wonka, directed by Paul King traces the magical back story of master chocolateer Willy Wonka, a character based off Roald Dahl’s popular novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Revealing his French and musical chops, Timothée Chalamet as a young and hopeful Wonka wins hearts with his vibrancy, youthful vigor, and realistic portrayal.

Though OTT platforms are not officially declared yet, the film is available to pre-order on Prime Video in the U.S.

This epic scifi adventure is based on the classic Dune novel series written by Frank Herbert in 1965. Directed by Denis Villeneuve, the film is set in the distant future and follows interplanetary politics and war, centered around Paul Atreides and his noble family. Essaying the leading role of Paul, Chalamet is charming, privileged, honest, tough yet vulnerable, the perfect combination for a sheltered, warrior prince who is coming into his right.

The film is available on Prime Video for rent.

Little Women

Based on Louisa May Alcott’s renowned novel series Little Women’s first two books, the film of the same name was adapted in a fresh way for the silver screen by Greta Gerwig. Starring the likes of Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Florence Pugh, Meryl Streep, and Timotheé Chalamet, the film was bound to be a hit, coupled with its simple yet touching premise. Little Women follows the coming-of-age story of four girls, born into a currently poor but well-respected family. The film focuses on their bond with their wealthy but lonely neighbor Laurie, portrayed by Chalamet, and is proof of his easy execution of a young boy, who can be sullen yet shy, captivatingly playful yet moody, and childish yet mature.

The film is available for rent on Zeeplex.

Beautiful Boy

This 2018 biographical drama is based on two memoirs, David Sheff’s Beautiful Boy: A Father’s Journey Though His Son’s Addiction, and Nic Sheff’s Tweak: Growing Up on Methamphetamines. Starring Steve Carell and Timotheé Chalamet in the main roles of David and Nic, the film is a haunting reminder of the massive amount of patience and support drug addicts require while they try to get clean. As a relapsing drug addict Nic, Chalamet is exceptionally good, and his performance is gut-wrenching and tear-inducing.

The film is available on Prime Video.

Call Me By Your Name

This bildungsroman romantic drama traces the relationship between a 17-year-old Elio, essayed by Chalamet, and a 24-year-old Oliver, who is a grad assistant to the former’s archaeology professor father. Directed by Luca Guadagnino and released in 2017, the film marked a turning point in Timotheé Chalamet’s life, being his big break and earning him an Oscar nom, which, in turn, made him the third-youngest male nominee in the award’s history. Chalamet’s portrayal of innocence, the flush of first love, and the heartrending agony of heartbreak is among his career best.
