Tooth Pari to Midnight Mass, 5 series to stream on OTT for vampire fans

Modern day vampires have it all. Good looks, excellent teeth, special powers, oh, and do not forget, immortality. But what happens when the life of such a perfect creature (albeit with a drinking problem) still gets messed up, that too on a grander scale than usual to balance the calories of privilege? If you are a vampire fan who likes weighing the pros and cons of a fanged existence, then tick off these series off your watchlist.

Originals

Though the series is a spinoff of the Vampire Diaries, it can be watched as a standalone series as well. It aired from 2013 to 2018 on The CW and followed the story of Klaus Mikaelson, an Original and only vampire-werewolf hybrid, and his siblings as they maneuver the supernatural waters of New Orleans to regain control of the city. A true beacon of vampire action-drama, the series surprised all with its sincere depth of emotion and familial bond.

Tooth Pari

This Netflix series is a unique horror comedy that did not let its thriller element fall flat by employing fantastic actors in complex roles. Directed by Pratim D. Gupta, the series starring Tanya Maniktala, Shantanu Maheshwari, Revathi, Adil Hussain, Sikandar Kher, Tillotama Shome, and Saswata Chatterjee in the prime roles, premiered on April 20, 2023. It traces the blossoming romance between Rumi, a defiant vampire, and Bikram, a dentist who faints on seeing blood, as well as the underlying ages-old conflict between the vampires and their nemesis, the Cutmundus, led by a witch called Luna Luka.

Vampires

Vampires is a French series that revolves around a vampire girl, Doina, who suppresses her vampire side by taking blood pills. But her hidden life with her mother and elder siblings begins to unravel once she stops taking the pills, comes into her vampiric being, and is then hunted by her own clan leaders for her unique blood. A unique tale of love, betrayal, and the urban vampire underbelly, the series premiered in March, 2020.

First Kill

This vampire and monster hunter teenage love story packs a punch by including their respective supernatural families early on, to create more angst and action. Released on June 10, 2022, on Netflix, the series focuses on the first kill sixteen-year-old Juliette must commit to become a vampire adult, before shifting to include Calliope, a descendent of a powerful monster hunting family, as her potential love interest. This lgbtq+ series includes some sizzling chemistry as well as gritty action sequences.

Midnight Mass

This Mike Flanagan classic is a haunting reminder of mankind’s folly and the constant cycle of sin and redemption. The series streamed on Netflix in 2021 and followed the supernatural occurrences that plague and transform a nearly isolated island, called Crockett Island, following the arrival of a charismatic young priest. Though the series has bloodthirsty ‘angels’ instead of ‘vampires,’ a classic spin on religious denial, the horrifying yet poetic ending of the monsters and its creator serves a mesmerizing watch for all lovers of a gory vampire kill fest.
