Sivakarthikeyan's Maaveeran, which was released on Friday, opened to decent reports from critics and audiences. The film helmed by Madonne Ashwin is the director's sophomore project after his critically-acclaimed debut Mandela. Arun Viswa has produced the movie which has Mysskin, Sunil, Saritha and Yogi Babu essaying notable characters.
It revolves around a cartoonist who sets out to fight against a corrupt politician. He unexpectedly becomes the saviour of many people. However, little did he know that his life would change after an accident.
The movie's screenplay has been garnering unanimous response albeit a few felt that the latter half needed trimming. Siva's performance is the backbone of the movie while Saritha and Yogi Babu registered their characters with their effective portrayals. The movie earned more than 7 crores on its first day in Tamil Nadu.
Maaveeran is said to have grossed around 12 crores across the world on its first day. It emerged as the fifth biggest grosser in Tamil this year after Thunivu, Varisu, Ponniyin Selvan 2 and Maamannan. It was also released in Telugu as Mahaveerudu, but couldn't register impressive collections.
The makers made an announcement on Tuesday evening that the movie has grossed 50 crores worldwide after its five days of theatrical run. Film buffs are eager to know if the movie would be Siva's third 100-crore movie after Doctor and Don. Though Vijay Antony's Kolai is hitting the screens this Friday, makers are hopeful of the project having a remarkable run for a few more days.
