Malaikottai Vaaliban, the highly anticipated Mohanlal starrer is set to hit the theatres across the globe on January 25, 2024. Ahead of the release, the makers of Lijo Jose Pellissery’s fantasy action film released the most awaited trailer, on social media. From the Malaikottai Vaaliban trailer, it is evident that the Malayalam cinema audiences are in for a never-seen-before cinematic experience with the magnum opus.

Malaikottai Vaaliban trailer review

The 2.24-minute-long trailer of Malaikottai Vaaliban promises that Mohanlal and Lijo Jose Pellissery’s ambitious film is not just another star vehicle. The well-cut trailer hints the actor-director duo has not created just a visual spectacle, but has crafted a comic book-esque universe, which is not bound to any timeline and geography. Just like the director mentioned in his recent interviews, the Malaikottai Vaaliban reminded me of the pages of a good old Amar Chitra Katha tale.

From the trailer, it is evident that the film deals with a very familiar ‘hero saves the day’ plot. A group of rulers, including both foreigners and Indians try to suppress the commoners, and those atrocities lead to the rise of the hero – Malaikottai Vaaliban. Mohanlal looks like a million bucks in the trailer – right from the back shot in which his hands are tied to two massive pillars, to the final shot, in which he is supposedly getting ready for an earth-shattering fight. However, the shot, in which Vaaliban is seen standing amid a massive crowd full of masked men, looked especially stunning.

When it comes to world-building, even though Malaikottai Vaaliban deals with an entirely different subject, the treatment of certain sequences reminded me of Lijo Jose Pellissery’s Amen (for eg. The shots in which the entire army is seen pointing their guns upwards, and the very next sequence in which the British ruler is seen getting ready to shoot). The well-crafted trailer showcases some brilliantly filmed top shots, that hint that the movie is going to be a visually enthralling theatre experience.

Along with Mohanlal, the rest of the cast members including Hareesh Peradi, Sonalee Kulkarni, Manoj Moses, Katha Nandi, Danish Sait, and Manikandan Achari, and others make notable appearances in the Malaikottai Vaaliban trailer. Madhu Neelakandan scores with extraordinary visualization, while Prashant Pillai makes a mark with his unique music score. The other technical aspects, especially costume and production design, editing, and colouring look extremely promising.

Malaikottai Vaaliban, which is jointly produced by the banners John & Mary Creative, Century Films, Maxlab, and Amen Movie Monastery, is slated to hit the screens in three languages, including Malayalam, Tamil, and Hindi.
