The Malayalam film industry has kicked off 2024 with a bang and it’s no wonder that people across Kerala and India are now waiting with bated breath to know the list of Malayalam theatrical releases every week.

With films such as Premalu, Manjummel Boys and Bramayugam going on to create box office records not just in Kerala, but also in Tamil Nadu and the two Telugu states, Malayalam films have now opened up a whole new market outside the State’s borders. Spanning decades, this Vineeth Sreenivasan directorial revolves around two creatively-inclined individuals who arrive in Chennai chasing dreams of cinema and how their destinies are intertwined. Though not entirely based on true incidents, the movies has several scenes that are inspired by today's veteran actors and filmmakers.

Aavesham

After a bunch of youngsters get into trouble with their college seniors, they seek the help of a Bengaluru-based goon named Ranga, whose tales of infamy are sung by his cohorts. But is Ranga all that he claims he is and how will he stand against an entire college? The action comedy entertainer is directed by Romancham fame Jithu Madhavan.

Ganesh Gangadharan, a paraplegic comic book artist, has to grapple with his inner struggles of being strapped to a wheel-chair and living in a world filled with sympathy and unrealised potential. The way he chooses to break out of this also brings about a change in the world he is living in. Ranjith Sankar once again goes back to the thriller genre, after movies such as Passenger and Arjunan Sakshi, for this Eid release.

It's hard to pick from the three festive - Eid and Vishu - releases this week. All three films, Varshangalkku Shesham, Aavesham and Jai Ganesh cater have enough to appeal to all sections of the audience, and also continue Malayalam cinema's golden run at the box office that kickstarted with films such as Premalu and Manjummel Boys. While Varshangalkku Shesham and Jai Ganesh would also appeal to the family audience, Aavesham promises to be a fun ride for youngsters with Fahadh Faasil's new and entertaining avatar as well as comedy and action.
