Meri Shehzadi is a Pakistani drama that is loosely based on the life story of Princess Diana and family politics. Starring Urwa Hocane, Ali Rehman Khan, Atiqa Odho, and Sonia Mishal in lead roles, Meri Shehzadi received praise for the direction and crisp execution. The fresh narrative with intriguing characters adds to the value of this drama, making it a hidden cinematic gem for the Pakistani industry. The drama also marked Urwa and Farhan Saeed’s reunion as a couple after their much-loved chemistry in Udaari.
The plot revolves around a simple and innocent girl, Dania, who is raised by her grandparents like a princess with much affection and care. After the death of her mother, Dania gets her second parents, her maternal grandparents, as they embrace her like the shadow of their own daughter. However, Dania’s sweet and easy-going life takes a sour turn when her father Salahuddin gets her married to his nephew Shehroze. Since Salahuddin belongs to a political family with his Chief Minister brother, Riaz Uddin, the family prioritises their political ambitions rather than relationships. On Dania’s wedding night, her world gets rocked when she learns of Shehroze’s secret wedding with an American woman, followed by a series of betrayals and family politics.

Meri Shehzadi delves into family relationships, love, power struggles, and political ambitions. Despite only 28 episodes, its slow-paced execution was criticised by drama enthusiasts and fans alike. The story takes a compelling turn when the simple and sweet Dania decides to stand up for herself and embarks on her political career. Her determination and will to work for the welfare of people helped her climb up the ladder of power, thus boosting family rivalry and conflicts during the climax episodes.
The last episode unfolds with a bitter confrontation between Dania and her estranged husband, Shehroze. When Dania rejects his pleas to come back to his life and accepts that she now loves someone who values her and respects her, Shehroze strikes a deal with her that he will divorce her without any fight, but she will have to take back all the cases filed against him and his family. Later, at a press conference, Dania, Shahana, and Shehroze inform the media of their mutual divorce and also request that they accept their decision and not involve their personal lives in political agendas.
Meri Shehzadi’s last episode ends with the tragic demise of the female protagonist, Dania. When Dania’s life was finally getting a happy ending, she gets killed in a traffic accident along with her lover, Dr. Hasan. Several media reports cover the tragic accident and also showcase people expressing their grief over losing a young political leader driven by kindness and integrity. A time leap shows that Shehroze and his mother appear on a TV programme to express their political ideas while expressing sadness over Dania’s death. In an ironic ending, their facial expressions revealed a bit of guilt and immorality as they discussed Dania. Thus giving viewers a vague idea if they were involved in the accident by disguising a planned murder as a road accident. However, it is not revealed clearly and thus we end up with some unresolved queries.
