The COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent lockdowns have drastically transformed how the entertainment industry functions across the globe. Beyond its effect on content consumption, viewing trends, the lockdowns have been a source of creative inspiration for many filmmakers. Mon Ampere, a Telugu indie film starring only two actors Zaheer Ahmed, GS Chalapathy is a product of one such idea.

While Zaheer Ahmed, a contemporary theatre actor and a dentist, is cast as Karthik, his on-screen father is played by GS Chalapathy, a Nandi award winner in vernacular theatre. The entire crew of Mon Ampere comprises film graduates who’d finished their diplomas in film direction. Manoj Sri Harsha is the writer, director, editor, and also the co-producer for this film.

The film revolves around a youngster, who’s on the verge of healing his broken heart and loneliness in a pandemic set lockdown. The protagonist, a corporate employee falls in love with a ghost that's haunting his electronic appliances. Amidst the struggle to enhance this platonic and literally spiritual romance, he has to fight his father's conventional way of life, the lockdown relaxation and find a way to stay united with this soulmate.

The makers of Mon Ampere have opted for a direct digital release through a one-of-a-kind support-refund model. The film will be out on watchmyfilm.com, powered by MovieSaints on June 3 for Rs 99. While one can watch the movie for Rs 99, there are two options for viewers after they finish it. In case you choose the dislike option, Rs 69 is refunded. Provided you like the film, you can choose to pay more than Rs 99 to support the filmmaker.

“Mon Ampere comes from the deep philosophical respect I have towards platonic romance and my immense admiration towards the digital shift. The film expresses the voice of new-age, i.e., the electronic and virtual age. I want to present two kinds of perspectives on the digital era, the one from the past and the one that's now. It is also a personal interest to depict a healthy romance that has to do with bond and mentalities rather than mere physicality,” the director Manoj Sri Harsha shares.

With its innovative release model, Mon Ampere aims to create a new independent filmmaking wave in Telugu. While Maneshh is the cinematographer for the film, Varun is the sound designer. Sandilya is the executive producer of the same.
