Exclusive| Mother’s Day 2023: There is no formula for being the perfect mother, says Bhagyashree

Hello Bhagyashree! What does the term ‘Mother’ mean to you? 
Mother means life. That’s how I see mother. She is the next thing that I see after God. She gives life to another person. She is the connection between God and earth.

How are you planning to celebrate this year’s Mother's Day? 
She (my daughter Avantika) is going to be away from me on Mother’s Day. But we had got a lot of time that we spent together before she left. To tell you the fact, we, as such, don’t mark something as a Mother's Day in specific. We both (Avantika and me) have a mother-daughter day out. We leave the boys and spend a day together every year for sure.  (smiles)

Do you think, over the years, the concept of Mother's Day has taken the commercial route? 
In a way it's good to see the way people are thinking about Mother's Day. People who stay far tend to take efforts to reach out to their mothers. Why do we have to look at the negative side of this? We need to see the positive side of the day. At least, because of this day, many children reach out to their parents, esp. Mothers. Be it sending a card or making a call, children who live far away from their mothers make a conscious effort to reach out to their mother.

What are some of your fondest memories of celebrating Mother's Day with your own mother? 
We did not have this type of Mother's Day during our times the way it is now. Avantika and I are like the ‘Mama Mia’ couple. We are still bonded by the umbilical cord.

What are some of the most valuable lessons you've learned about motherhood so far? 
I feel that there is nothing right or nothing wrong for a mother. Each mother is different. Each child is different. There is no formula for being the perfect mother. At the end of the day, you still get blamed for a lot of things (laughs). Mother's love is the most selfless form of love.

What is it that you want your children to learn from you? 
Its very important to respect everyone around you.

How are you as a mother? A proper hands-on mother or a friend? 
I was a hands-on mother while they were growing up. Now they have grown up, we are friends. There is always a right time to transform from being a parent to a friend with your children. You need to give that confidence to the children to come to you and tell everything. This is not an overnight process. It takes time to build that kind of confidence.

Is there anything that you want to go back in time and change about you or your life?
I wish that I was as confident as my daughter is right now.

Was there something your parents did when you were a kid that you swore you’d never do yourself? 
I would not want them to be burdened with my dreams for them. The parents should not pressurize or burden their children to derive happiness.
