Over the years, though there has been a grouse by Nivin Pauly’s die-hard fans that he has been picking roles that test his potential rather than stick to his strengths, one thing that the majority can’t deny is that actor’s recent performances have left a strong impression on the audience. His next role in Mahaveeryar will be no different, says the actor.
Talking about his character in the Abrid Shine directorial, which is set to release in theatres on July 22, the Premam star said that the director had first narrated to him the story of Mahaveeryar. “I found that very interesting but I didn’t know he was going to conceive that as a film,” he said, in a press meet in Kochi on Friday.
After Abrid had completed the screenplay, he narrated it to Nivin to get his feedback. “I was bowled over by how he had weaved in the elements of the story as well as fantasy in an intriguing manner. Even before I said I wanted to act, I asked him if I could produce it,” said the actor.
The film also has Asif Ali playing the other lead character of a warrior named Veerabhadran. Nivin said the discussion on which character he would play came after he was onboard as a producer. “I have always wanted to play different characters and more importantly roles that would leave a mark with the audience. This role in Mahaveeryar, I believe, will do that. I have never seen such a narrative in Malayalam and that’s a key reason I decided to take it up,” said the actor.
Mahaveeryar, which is also co-produced by Nivin, also marks the Mollywood debut of Shanvi Srivastava. The time-travel fantasy satire also has Siddique, Lal, Vijay Menon, Mallika Sukumaran and Major Ravi in pivotal roles. The movie marks Nivin’s third collaboration with Abrid after 1983 and Action Hero Biju.
