Actor-director Mahesh Manjrekar has ushered in Mahatma Gandhi’s 152nd birth anniversary with the official announcement of his upcoming feature film Godse. The director of the critically well-received 1999 film Vaastav: The Reality took to his Instagram handle to share the teaser poster, where he wrote.

“The story of Nathuram Godse has always been close to my heart. It takes a lot of courage to back a film of this nature. I always believe in hard-hitting subjects and uncompromised storytelling and this one fits the bill. People do not know much about Godse other than he’s the man who fired at Gandhi. While telling his story, we neither want to patronize nor want to speak against anyone. We’ll leave it to the audience on who is right or wrong.”

Producer Ssandeep Singh also shared the teaser poster and shared a post echoing the announcement on his handle, with his thoughts on the Gandhi-Godse matter. He wrote in the post that the film is an ‘untold tale’ that should be watched by the cinemagoers and that he wants to bring out the ‘factual story’ to the audience among the many versions of narratives on Gandhi and Godse. He further added that he is joining hands with Mahesh Manjrekar for two projects, SwatantraVeer Savarkar and White.

Whereas Raaj Shaandilya, writer and director who made his directorial debut with Dream Girl said that the ‘renewed interest’ in Nathuram Godse has led him to present a film on Nathuram Godse and that he is confident that this project will bring him pride.

Godse will most likely go on floors in the second half of 2022.
