Paddehuli on OTT: Shreyas Manju’s debut film gets a new streaming destination

Kannada cinema’s OTT dry spell continues this week, with no major title being announced so far. Namma Flix will get a new addition to its library this week, but it is a five-year-old film that is not exclusive to the streamer. Shreyas Manju’s launchpad, Paddehuli will be available on Namma Flix starting May 10. The film directed by Guru Deshpande, is the remake of the Tamil film Meesaya Murukku and paired Shreyas with Nishvika Naidu.

Shreyas, the son of veteran Kannada film producer K Manju, began his film journey with the film in which he played an engineering student with musical aspirations. Whether or not he is able to pursue this dream is what the film is about. V Ravichandran and Sudharani played his parents, a pairing that came years after they were last seen together onscreen.

Paddehuli was not a box office success, following which, Shreyas did two films – one, an out-and-out commercial film called Raana, and another, an offbeat and experimental love story called Vishnu Priya. While Raana came and left without even a whimper, Vishnu Priya is yet to see the light of day. The film’s been ready for release for a while, but the makers have not announced a suitable date. Vishnu Priya, directed by VK Prakash, pairs Shreyas with Priya Prakash Varrier in what will be her Kannada film debut.

The actor has, since then, signed up for a couple of films, including a project with veteran filmmaker S Narayan. Not long ago, Shreyas had taken to social media to ask netizens what kind of films they’d like to see youngsters like him do. While most advised him to stop doing commercial cinema and focus on content-driven projects instead, there was a suggestion for actors of his generation to collaborate.

Shreyas responded to this saying that such a film is in the works but did not furnish details, as he wanted to make sure everything about it was just right. While Paddehuli is now coming to Namma Flix, Shreyas’ Raana is on Sun NXT, both of which you can stream with OTTplay Premium’s Simply South pack.
