Pradhan: Soumitrisha is all set for her big-screen debut

The film Pradhan, starring Dev in the titular role, is ready to be released in December. Television actress Soumitrisha Kundu will make her film debut through this movie. She will play the calm and controlled Rumi in the film. 

Soumitrisha will play Dev's wife Rumi. In an interview with Anandabazar, she said, “Two layers will be seen in my character. How a girl adjusts with her husband after marriage, and how an educated girl talks about her rights. I played Mithai who was a playful character and talked a lot. Rumi is calm. It took time to adjust after the habit of two and a half years. It takes time to understand the character. I could not remove the restless Mithai from within myself. Then it got sorted with Devda’s help. In Mithai’s set, I chatted a lot. Here, I silently watched others’ works after my shot. I did not come out of my character and hence did not chat a lot.”

How did she get the offer? Soumitrisha said, “While talking about the character, Atanuda suggested my name and Abhijitda clapped. It is not always luck. It requires hard work.” 

Television means getting a certain amount of money at a certain time. Will that be possible on the big screen? What about the fame Soumitrisha had while playing Mithai? Will it be the same here? She replied, “I don't know if there will ever be any TV star like me. I got a gift of a golden chain from Bangladesh while playing Mithai. Pujas are offered at the Naihati Boro Ma on my birthday. People pray when I get sick. For a long time after Mithai ended, many people came to Bharat Laxmi Studio to meet me. But I became Rumi after leaving all the stardom of Mithai.”

She also said, “Good money can be earned on the big screen also. Otherwise, everyone would work on television only. There, the system is like a monthly salary. Here, I will get money as long as I work. If I can prove myself, I shall get the required money from the big screen as well.” So, Soumitrisha will not return to television. However, she will not sign for any other film before Pradhan’s release. 

Pradhan will be released on December 22. Dev plays the protagonist Deepak Pradhan – a police officer. Paran Banerjee, Mamata Shankar, Soham Chakraborty, and Anirban Chakraborty will play other important roles.
