Despite a confirmation is awaited on the release of Karthick Naren's upcoming flick Maaran, looks like the young filmmaker is getting ready with his next project. It is heard that Maaran, starring Dhanush in titular role, will have a direct release on Disney+ Hotstar earlier next year. However, the team is yet to respond on the same. 

Meanwhile, the grapevine has it that the director will team up with Atharvaa for a movie, the shooting of which, is likely to commence soon. An official announcement on this untitled film is expected to happen soon. Veteran actors Sarath Kumar and Rahman are said to have come on board to play crucial characters in the project. The duo will be seen together in Mani Ratnam's magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan as well.

Interestingly, Rahman played the lead in Karthick's debut flick Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru (streaming on Amazon Prime Video), which went on to become a sleeper hit. This is the actor's second collaboration with the filmmaker. 

Karthick's sophomore project, Naragasooran, is yet to the see the light of the day despite rumours doing the rounds that the thriller will have a direct release on SonyLIV a few months ago. His last outing was Project Agni from Navarasa (streaming on Netflix) which had Arvind Swami and Prasanna essaying lead roles.   

Arun Vijay-starrer Mafia: Chapter 1 (streaming on Amazon Prime Video) was his last theatrical release. The film opened to mixed reviews because of which the makers aren't keen on making a sequel to it.

On the other hand, Atharvaa, who was last seen in Thalli Pogathey, has Sam Anton's Trigger and Sri Ganesh's Kuruthi Aattam awaiting theatrical releases. The actor's last theatrical release in Tamil was Sam's 100 (streaming on Amazon Prime Video).
