A few days ago, director Sandeep Sunkad of the Kannada thriller Shakhahaari had spoken to a media platform about how the film that received good reviews and largely positive word-of-mouth from audiences too, and yet, had not managed to break even with its theatrical run, which extended to about 50-days at select centres. Shakhahaari was 1 of nearly 10 Kannada movie releases on February 16 and is now gearing up for its OTT outing.
Speaking to OTTplay, Shakhahaari producer Rajesh Keelambi said that he’s got a deal with Amazon Prime Video for the film’s streaming rights. The finer details of the deal and the streaming date are yet to be finalized, though, he adds, although he expects the film to be available for streaming shortly. The film, like many others, is under a pay-per-view scheme.
Shakhahaari is a thriller with Rangayana Raghu in the lead, as a small-time hotelier Subbanna Bhat, running a modest establishment that provides a quick bite and tea to a bunch of regulars. Subbanna has a fixed routine to his day-to-day life, which is disrupted when he ends up harbouring an injured fugitive at his hotel, parts of which also serve as his living quarters.
SI Mallikarjun, played by Gopalkrishna Deshpande, is in pursuit of the fugitive. What happens when Mallikarjun and Subbanna cross paths forms the crux of Shakhahaari. Leading man Rangayana Raghu has been quoted as saying that playing Subbanna seemed like a challenge that would be artistically satisfying to him. The role and the film were both novel, which is what drew him to it, he had said in a promotional interview he did, in which he was interviewed by director Sandeep, adding that the character haunted him right from the first narration.
Shakhahaari also stars Sujay Shastry, Nidhi Hegde, Vinay UJ, Harini Sreekanth, Shreeharsha Gobhatt and Pratima Nayak, among others.
