Vijay Antony's latest outing Raththam hit screens today (October 6) along with Trisha's The Road, Vikram Prabhu and Shraddha Srinath's Irugapatru and Madhur Mittal's 800. Raththam, directed by CS Amudhan, also stars Mahima Nambiar and Nandita Swetha in the lead.
CS Amudhan's message to the audience
Rathham is billed an investigative thriller, where Vijay Antony plays a crime journalist. The film is a completely different take from CS Amudhan's previous films. In fact, the director had yesterday dropped a video message on his social media handle, in which he urged the audience to not watch Tamizh Padam 1 and 2, before watching Raththam.
Leading lady Mahima Nambiar excited
Mahima Nambiar, who stars in both Raththam and 800, had written on her social media handle, "#Raththam & #800TheMovie From today Both the films are very close to my heart for many reasons Thanks to God for giving me this wonderful opportunity to be part of two amazing films Do watch and let me know (sic)."
Audience review of the film
While critics have called Raththam, a film with good ideas, but a failure when it came to the execution, audiences seem to have loved the film.
A movie goer said, "This is a film that needs to be watched by everyone because it creates awareness. This is a very different kind of crime story, something that we haven't witnessed before. The film is worth a watch."
Entertainment Industry tracker Sreedhar Pillai, wrote, #Raththam Hooks you straightaway! @csamudhan moves away from his comfort zone (black humour laced comedies) to a new-age taut technology related thriller which is relevant in today’s politics. @vijayantony is presented in a different manner and does a neat job as an alcoholic investigative journalist. Of course some commercial cinema liberties have been made taken to make the newsroom and journalists look chic. You can’t take your eyes off @Mahima_Nambiar, she steals the show! And @editorsuresh ’s cuts make it racy (sic)."
