Actor and director Rishab Shetty has opted to adopt Government Higher Primary School in the village of Keradi of Udupu District.
Keradi, a part of Kundapura Taluk, also happens to be Rishab's birthplace and according to reports, the said Government Higher Primary School is one of his alma maters. Many would also recognise Keradi as the place featured as the main setting in the 2022 film 'Kantara'.
As reported by The New Indian Express, Rishab Shetty was part of the School Development and Monitoring Committee, or the SDMC, meeting recently where he announced that he would be adopting the school.
He also pledged a significant amount to the improvement of the conditions including levelling of the school playground, repainting the school building, purchasing a new school van to aid children and also helping in bringing more teachers on board. Alongside, officials from the local Education Department have been quoted as saying that Rishab Shetty wishes to introduce spoken English in the school and assist in other areas of improvement as well.
Rishab's initiative does not come as a surprise considering that he has proactively sought out the welfare of Government schools across Karnataka. In the recent past, he has spoken at public forums about the need for qualitative education in Government schools and has even stated that he would be more than glad to use his position as a noted actor to assist in those pursuits. In the same vein, Rishab Shetty has always proudly shared that he himself studied in a Government school.
Fittingly, Rishab's wife and costume designer Pragathi Shetty started a foundation that would help not only government schools but also children who are in need.
On the work front, Rishab Shetty is fully engrossed in the prequel to 'Kantara', titled 'Kantara Chapter 1'. The first promo of the upcoming film was released recently to great effect and Rishab's look in the film, in particular, has piqued curiosity. 'Kantara Chapter 1' is expected to go on floors in early 2024.
