Sanam Teri Kasam starring Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane has grabbed all the headlines as the film was re-released in cinemas after 9 years and has been gaining its due love.

In 2016, Sanam Teri Kasam had its original release. However, the film did not perform well at the box office. Starring Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane, the film was re-released in theatres on February 7, 2025, and it has been receiving immense love and attention from fans making the film one of the highest grossers. Amid this, the director Vinay Sapru was asked who he would have cast in the movie if it was made in the 90s and his answer was Salman Khan. He also shared why he thinks Salman would have been the perfect choice.
Speaking to India Today, filmmaker Vinay Sapru was asked if Sanam Teri Kasam had been made in the 90s, who would have been the male lead. He said, "100% it would have been Salman Khan.
Decoding reasons, the filmmaker shared, "The innocence in his eyes, the way he looks at and holds the girl, the purity of thought and emotion—he was the perfect romantic hero of that era, and he would be our perfect Inder."

As for the female lead, Sapru said that anu newcomer would have been a great fit. He mentioned that Salman makes his co-star look special because he is so special.
"Anyone we could have cast opposite him would be special and, of course, it would be a newcomer. His presence alone elevates his leading ladies. He was the ultimate romantic hero of the 90s," Vinay added.
When asked if he has any plans to collaborate with Salman again, Sapru expressed his admiration and added, "Who wouldn’t want to work with Salman sir? He said that the Khan has been a superstar for over 30 years, and his longevity is unmatched.
"We are just waiting for the right script and the right time. Whenever our mentor decides, we would be honoured to work with him again," he added.
Meanwhile, the writer-director duo Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru opened up about Sanam Teri Kasam 2 and Shraddha Kapoor's name came up as a possible female lead in the sequel. In an interview with Instant Bollywood, they were told that some fans want Shraddha opposite Harshvardhan Rane in Sanam Teri Kasam 2. Hearing this, Radhika said, “Shraddha ko please tag kardo.”
