After a successful run at multiple film festivals, Krishand RK's most recent directorial, Sangarsha Ghadana, debuted on the big screen on August 8. Despite its limited theatrical run, the distinctive gangster film is receiving plaudits for its story. Krishand discussed the writing process for this movie and the reasons he decided to screen the movie in theatres in an interview with OTTplay.
The director disclosed that he initially had no intention of releasing Sangarsha Ghadana in theatres and instead chose to make a direct OTT debut. Nevertheless, he stated that while he was having talks with OTT platforms, they insisted on a theatrical release. Krishand underlined why the movie didn't have a lot of promotional activities. He went on to say that the project is entirely experimental and that many people would find this narrative and storytelling approach odd. The director of Purusha Pretham added that cinephiles are more likely to like this film.
According to Krishand, he first had doubts about Sangarsha Ghadana's story and developed the script inspired from a popular Malayalam anti-hero. "The movie is based on my understanding of Sun Tzu's book 'The Art of Warfare,' which swiftly captured my attention. Through the interpretations of this old Chinese literature, I intended to portray loss, grief, and retribution," he stated. "The film has deeper philosophical meanings and is experimental," he said.
Rahul Rajagopal, Mahi, Zhinz Shan, Jayesh L R, Megha Ranjini Krishnan, and Mrudula Murali play supporting roles in Sangarsha Ghadana, which stars Vishnu Agasthya and Sanoop Padaveedan in the key roles. The screenplay was written by the director himself. Krishand is well-known for his earlier films, including Purusha Pretham and Aavasavyuham, which are available for streaming on Sony LIV and OTTplay Premium. His next projects include Sambhavavivaranam Nalara Sangham or The Chronicles of the 4.5 Gang, a six-episode Malayalam web series that the same OTT platform has acquired.
